Netflix plans to eliminate roughly 6% of its global workforce, or about 1,000 jobs, in organizational changes announced by co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters to employees on October 14.
Product, technology, legal and human-resources teams are expected to be among the most affected, according to the leaders’ memo. They framed the reductions as a decision about how to prioritize people and resources while investing in areas they expect to support future growth—not as a response to a weak business.
The inclusion of HR among the hardest-hit functions leaves open how Netflix will organize its people operations after the cuts. For HR teams, the announcement also puts employee communications and support for affected staff in focus; the memo did not specify how those responsibilities would be handled.
The planned reductions are among Netflix’s largest since 2022. The company has not disclosed a breakdown of the job cuts by team or location.
