Workday announced AI agent capabilities for hiring, payroll, accounting and compliance on October 13 at its Workday Rising event in Las Vegas. The company said the tools are designed to monitor workflows and carry out routine tasks, with customers able to determine which actions can happen autonomously and which need review or approval.
The Talent Acquisition Agent monitors open requisitions, flags roles at risk of missing their fill dates and identifies qualified candidates. Early adopters can use it now; Workday plans general availability for early 2027.
Workday said its Payroll Agent is intended to detect missing pay data before a payroll run. The company also said agent actions are logged. Payroll, Accounting and Deployment autopilot features are planned for early-adopter customers in early 2027.
For HR teams, the announced hiring agent would take a monitoring role in addition to identifying candidates. Workday has not reported measured customer outcomes, and the broader rollout remains a plan rather than general availability.
